Guided Tour of Fermo – province of Fermo

Fermo is one of the most important cultural as well as historical and artistic towns in the Marche. Positioned between the valleys of the Tenna and Ete rivers, it is erected on a rocky outcrop of the Sabulo, hill and immersed in the sweet hills of the Marche, panoramic location at 320m a.s.l.

Piazza del Popolo, heart and driving centre of town life, it is surrounded by porticoes erected in the 16th century and by various historical buildings which close it at the ends;

Palazzo dei Priori, Palazzo dei Priori, built at the end of the 13th century and reconstructed at various times, it is characterised by the Renaissance façade dominated by the statue of Pope Sixtus V. Inside, we can find reception rooms with the prestigious Sala del Mappamondo, the section concerning the Picentes people of the Archaeological Museum and the Town Art Gallery which includes precious paintings by Rubens and di Lanfranco.

Cisterne Romane, Cisterne Romane, a.k.a. “piscine epuratorie”, which can be dated back to the 1st century A.D., it is an underground complex made up of thirty ample areas laid out on three parallel rows which gather rain water to supply it to the whole town.

Teatro dell’Aquila, Teatro dell’Aquila, a masterpiece of the 18th century, it was built following the design of the architect, Cosimo Morelli from Imola, opened on 26th September 1790. With five orders of stages and decorated by a grand fresco depicting a scene from mythology on the ceiling, it is the biggest theatre in the Marche.

Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the extraordinary asymmetrical façade in Istria stone dominates the eastern part of the Girfalco hill. The church was constructed in the 13th century and substantially modified by the architect, Cosimo Morelli in the 18th. In the interior, we can make out the remains of some floor mosaics from Early Christian times, besids the famousfamous funereal monument of Giovanni Visconti da Oleggia from 1366;

Church of S. Francesco, Church of S. Francesco, an impressive building of Gothic forms, houses 14th-century frescoes, a canvas by Benefial and the grandiose funeral monument of Ludovico Euffreducci of Andrea Sansovino of 1527.
