macerata_200x181Macerata is one of the typical small towns of our region, it lies on a hill dominating the two valleys of the Potenza and the Chienti rivers… sferisterio_191x113In the beginning, as the first modern sports venue of our Region, it was intended as an arena for the so-called Gioco del pallone col bracciale, i.e. a handball game very similar to “pelota”; it had been commissioned by one hundred well-to-do citizens of Macerata. Thanks to its excellent acoustics, nowadays this majestic complex functions as an open-air theatre for Opera Festivals and various concerts.
